![]() ![]() ![]() There are multiple HDMI versions, and the earliest versions were not very compatible with the later versions. that 'cheap' dongle, probably doesn't have the HDCP pass through.Īnother issue is that hdmi is supposed to be a 2 way communication between devices, and when the originating devices initiate a connection to the external device, some 'cheap' external receivers don't properly communicate specs back to the originator, or at all, making it a 1 way communication. I bought an adapter to link to the monitor via the display port to the DVI connector on the Mac monitor. Seconded! all devices don't always use the exact same HDMI 'language', and that HDCP (high definition copyright protection) was setup for hdmi, dvi and displayport to prevent people from ripping cds and dvds using your machine as a player outputting to an external device that would be able to record the video and audio to some storage that had the copyrighting removed, which is how people make illegal copies of movies to mass duplicate and sell, among other methods. The PC has a display port as well as a vga output.
